LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
1. Letters sent to the Editor for printing must be written in ink on one side of the paper only, and writers must send in their names and addresses in full, whether they wish these to be printed or not. 2. Writers must say clearly whether or not their letters are being or have been sent to other papers. 3. The Editor cannot return or keep any letter which for any reason is unsuitable for printing, nor can he acknowledge unsuitable letters, although this will be done where it seems to be needful, or enter into any correspondence. 4. Letters must not be of more than 150 words in length.
O’Hara.—Your letter exceeds 150 words. Prophet.—No space, for discussion of sports selections. Individualist.—No space for such a correspondence now. R.. B. Neill.—A similar question was asked last year. The answer is the same. Inquirer.—The basic pension, without any allowances, for a civil widow, is £3 19s a week, and for a war widow £3 a week, according to information given by the Social Security Department. P. L. Bashford. —You would re-open subjects for which we have no space at the moment. “Usury” is, by definition, exorbitant rates of interest, or more particularly, rates above the legal maximum, J- Spence.—You do not advocate the tightening of the credit squeeze. The rest of your letter is repetitive, and your conclus--IQn is debatable. Both America and Germany have become creditor nations for reasons that have little to do with the “management” of their finances; arid the problems of chronic surpluses are just as anxious as those of chronic deficits, as the Americans have found and the Germans are now finding.
