KUOMINTANG WIN IN FORMOSA
Provincial Polls (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) Taipeh, April 22. President Chiang Kai-shek’s Kuomintang Party won a landslide victory in Formosa’s provincial elections bn Sunday with all 16 magistrates and four out of five city mayors elected from the party. About 88 per cent, of the electorate voted, according to an official report. Balloting took place in orderly fashion and no loser had appealed or complained. In the capital Mr Huang Chi-jui, third ranking official of the Kuomintang Party, ousted the incumbent Major, Mr Kao Yu-shu, by 176,346 votes to 119,516. Mr Huang, aged 47, is the party’s deputy secretary-general, and the Kuomintang has staked its reputation on his victory. At* Taipeh a record of 78.5 per cent, of the voters went to the ballots.
