W. W. Smith Wins In Auckland
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. April 22. W. W. Smith (Titirangi) won his second Auckland provincial golf championship when he beat last year's champion, R. R. Newdick (North Shore), 3 and 2, at the Titirangi course today. Results of today’s play were:— Semi-finals: W. W. Smith (Titirangi) beat N. V. Edwards (Titirangi), 1 up; R. R. Newdick (North Shore) beat G. M. Lees (Titirangi), 2 and 1. Final: Smith beat Newdick, 3 and 2. WELLINGTON TITLE (New Zealand Press Association) MASTERTON, April 22. The Wellington provincial singles golf final played at Lansdowne today was won by J. D. Durry, of Wellington, who beat W. L. Harter, 3 and 2. In the semi-final Durry beat T. Stout, of Wellington, and Harter beat W. G. Horne. OTAGO CHAMPION (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 22. A. R. Timms (St. Clair) beat the former professional, T. W. Wight, 1 up at the thirty-eighth in the final of the Otago golf championship at Balmacewen today. It was a game of fluctuating fortunes. Timms being 2 up after the first 18 holes, but 1 down with one hole to play. He squared the match with a birdie at the thirty-sixth and won at the thirty-eighth after Wight’s second iron caught a bunker. Freyberg Rosebowl Team (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, April 22. The Taranaki and Central King Country team, in playing order, to take part in the Freyberg rosebowl interprovincial golf tournament at Gisborne from May 9 to May 11, is: T. J. Jeffery, D. V. Sutherland, E. Billington, B. Chong, R. A. Court, J. Lacey. With the exception of Billington (Hawera) all the players are members of the New Plymouth Golf Club. J. Jeffery and J. Holden were not available. Wellington Team Selected (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 22. J. D. Durry (Hutt), who won the Wellington provincial golf championship on the Lansdowne links. Masterton, today, is the No. 1 member of the Wellington Freyberg Rosebowl team. It comprises Durry, W. G. Horne (Wellington), K. E. Carter (Miramar), T. M. Stout (Miramar), W. B. Reilly (Hutt), and R. D. Wilson (Masterton). Reserves: W. L. Hartet (Masterton) and D. A. Stevens (Miramar).
Recorded Music Society.—The Christchurch Recorded Music Society recently heard a programme presented by Mrs E. Atkinson. Items played were : Ballad for Piano and Orchestra (Faure). Flute Concerto, Number 1 in G Major (Mozart), Havanase (Saint Saens), Rumanian Rhapsody Noumber 1 (Enesco), Spanish Song Recital (Victoria de los Angeles), Russian Easter Festival Overture (Rimsky Korsakov).
