LYTTELTON PUBLIC CEMETERY
Sir.—Congratulations to Oliver Hunter for his timely letter regarding the state of the Lyttelton public cemetery. It is indeed a wilderness and a disgrace to the borough, except for that beautiful portion belonging to deceased servicemen and maintained by the Lyttelton Returned Servicemen‘s Association. It is fortunate indeed for Mr Thompson that his council has not had to pay for the work my husband has done, grubbing the pathway to our baby’s grave, and cleaning uncared-for graves around ours so that we could keep our plot free from the creeping weeds, broom, etc, which run rife over paths and plots alike.' The council has made the old gaol site a credit to the port, and had sufficient labour to do it. Now what about a little attention to our cemetery?—Yours, etc., H.L.B. I Lyttelton, June 23, 1954. •g»..tThe Town Clerk (Mr J. Thompson) said yesterday that the Lyttelton Borough Council had no comment to make on this letter.l ,
