CANTERBURY BEATS ACHILLES MARINES Playing in heavy rain, Canterbury beat the Royal Marines from H.MJJ.Z.S. Achilles by 10 goals to 1. The Achilles side found the heavy ground conditions quite unsuited for its type of football. T. Curtis, who scored his side’s only goal, was the best player. Canterbury, on the other hand, showed faultless ball control and positional play. Goals were scored for Canterbury by G. Smith (3), R. Dowker (2), J. McGlinchy (2), D. Head (2), and H. Hassan. The teams were:—
Royal Whittington; R. Gullick, N. Paddock; A. Meggison, F. Hudson, K. Clapson; A. Smith, A. Drury, L. Morse, T. Curtis, F. Knight. Canterbury.—P. O’Malley; C. Bailey, L. Fleete; B. Shaw, V. Smith, D. Grieve; R. Dowker, H. Hassan, G. Smith, D. Head, J. McGlinchy. The referee was Mr T. Mathie.
