ANTI-VIVISECTION SOCIETY

A branch of the Anti-Vivisection Society was formed in Christchurch recently at a meeting organised by Mrs I. Christmas-Harvey. Photographs of animals undergoing vivisection without anaesthetics were displayed, and the meeting was addressed by Mr Martin, president of the Animals’ Protection Society, Mr Eric Willis, for the Theosophical Order of Service, Mr Bridge, of the R.S.P.C.A., Mr Blaxall, for the Vegetarian Society, and Mrs Ridgen, of the Canterbury Kennel Club. A letter from the Whippet Racing Club, supporting the abolition of vivisection, was read out. The following officers were elected: —president, Mrs I. Christmas-Harvey; vice-presidents. Mrs Bloxall and Mr Martin; committee, Miss Laura Strachan, Mrs Coard. Mrs Dibley, Miss Guy, Miss K. Hughes. Mr Blaxall, Mrs Dalgeish, Mrs Edwards, and Mrs Campbell.
