Car . Accident in Apia.—A Post Office car returning from the airport with mail and passengers from a New Zealand aircraft, was struck and badlv damaged yesterday afternoon by a motor-truck loaded with petrol, proceeding to-the airport. The postmaster (Mr Humphry), who was driving the car, was injured, receiving a broken nose and facial abrasions. A Post Office clerk (Mr McPhail) suffered slight abrasions and shock. Flight Lieutenant Carter, Flying Officer Chesney, Pilot Officer L nton, and a civilian passenger, Mr Tidfnarsh, are all suffering from abrasions and shock.—Apia, June
Fatal Explosion in U.S. Hotel.—An explosion in the basement of the Baker Hotel, Dallas, Texas, killed at least eight and injured 41 more. It is believed a boiler exploded and the effect was aggravated by ammonia from the shattered pipes of the air-conditioning system. The entire cast side of the building was wrecked, many persons were overcome by fumes, and others, trapped on the upper floors, were rescued by firemen wearing gasmasks. The hotel is a 16-storey building containing 600 rooms. It cost 5,000,000 dollars.—New York, June 21.
