INTERCHANGE OF SCIENTISTS

NEED FOR RESEARCH GRANTS SEEN (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, June 21. The Empire Scientific Conference has agreed on the necessity for greater interch'iige and mobility of scientists throughout the Empire. Delegates considered that there was a paramount need for providing research grants to enable recently-graduated students and senior scientists to obtain experience in universities and scientific institutions outside their own countries.

A spokesman said that although the details had not been worked out, it was anticipated that the cost of any interchange scheme would be borne by the governments of the United Kingdom and the Dominions. The British Government was showing greater interest in science than before the war, and such a scheme was likely to receive favourable consideration. Delegates urged the establishment of a Commonwealth Information Centre, probably in London, and also advocated the extension of the wartime organisation of the British scientific liaison offices, which ' maintained scientific and technical collaboration between the Allied countries.
