NEW PLAN FOR INDIA
Acceptance By Congress REPORT FROM NEW DELHI (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 12,45 a.m.) LONDON, June 18. ‘lt is understood the Congress Party has decided to accept the British Cabinet Mission’s long-term and short-term proposals, - ’ says Reuter’s New Delhi correspondent. “The Congress Party Working Committee is expected to pass a resolution to this effect this afternoon. but it is believed the resolution will express the party’s disapproval of certain aspects of the long-term proposals and disagreement with certain Provisions for the interim government. ‘The president of the Congress Party (Dr. Maulana Azad) has formally notified the Viceroy (Lord Wavell) that the Congress Party has laid down three conditions for acceptance of the new British plan,” says the New Delhi correspondent of the “Daily Mail.” “The conditions are that the five members of Congress in the interim coalition Government must include Sarat Chandra Bose, brother of Subhas Chandra Bose, leader of the Japaneseinspired Indian National Army, a Nationalist Moslem, and a woman representing India’s womanhood. “Mr Gandhi, who is sponsoring the last-named condition, has nominated Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, who is considered the most capable of the many women among his personal attendants.” The correspondent says the first point is the Congress Party’s only real demand. The other two are better qualified as “desires.”
