REPORT TO HAWKERS BAY BOARD
(P.A.) HASTINGS. June 18. “It would seem that if we offend at the same time as Auckland, then it is all right, but if Auckland does not offend but we and other boards do, then we are jumped on,” said Mr H. H. Wylie, general manager of the Hawke’s Bay Power Board, at its meeting today, when a report that the Auckland Power Board had exceeded its quota by 500,000 units without any subsequent action being taken against that board was discussed. The board had referred the report to the Minister of Works, who denied that any discrimination in favour of Auckland or any other authority had been practised. Mr Wylie said that the Minister did not say whether or not Auckland did exceed its Quota, but it could be assumed in the circumstances that it did.
Board members agreed that there was an element of suspicion of preferential treatment being accorded major supply authorities. It was agreed that a careful watch be maintained on the position.
