MARKED CROSSINGS

Sir,—When will the City 'Council construct permanent markings in concrete colours, as in the sample test strips at the Gloucester street crossing? These strips have proved successful, and yet we ratepayers have to fork out to maintain the present prehistoric painting system. It is pitiful to watch council employees waiting for the paint to dry, to say nothing of the traffic block of some 30 or so red flags.—Yours, etc., LEONARD G. CHECKLEY. June 16, 1946. [“lt is probable that more permanent crossings will be constructed, but neither money nor materials are available for the work at present,” said the Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast), when this letter was referred to him. He added that each crossing cost about £9O. and the cement required could be used to much better advantage m other directions.]
