HEAVY SEAS ON GREYMOUTH BAR
VESSELS DELAYED From Our Own Reporter GREYMOUTH, June 16. There was insufficient abatement of the seas on the Greymouth bar to permit the arrival and departure of vessels late to-night, while it was %lso desired in the interests of safety, first of all to take soundings because the port has not been worked for some days’by the larger types of vessels. This will mean that there will be no movement before midday to-morrow at the earliest. Soundings will be taken to-morrow morning before any activity about 10.30 a.m. The Kaimai, which was becoming short of bunker coal, was diverted to Westport to-night and the two other vessels in the roadstead, the Poolta and the Kartigi, were joined by the Rata from Tarakohe. Hopes are entertained that the port will be worked on the midday tide to-morrow, permitting the departure of the Karu from Wellington and the Kiwitea for Auckland The Kaimai will return to Greymouth from Westport to load .for Wellington as scheduled. There .will be some delay with all four vessels loading coal, but there should be sufficient available to meet requirements, even though the Strongman State mine lost a day last week and will be idle again to-morrow.
