KINDNESS TO ANIMALS
Sir, —Some people seem very unkind to birds and animals. One man said he shoots all blackbirds that come near his place. A woman friend said she turned two half-grown kittens out of her washhouse in the rain. I said: “The poor things will perish with cold and hunger.” She just answered that there were plenty of cats about. I have always tried to teach my family and grandchildren that it is their duty to be kind to animals. I would suggest that children be given a short talk now and then in the schools on kindness to animals. The modern child has a bad habit of throwing stones at birds and cats especially.—Yours, etc..
