PRICE OF BOTTLED BEER
Sir,—Referring to the Price Tribunal’s explanation that the trade was permitted to put beer up fid a bottle when the duty was increased, which made local beer 2s and Auckland 2§ 3d, evidently the Price Tribunal did not go into the cost of these beers to the hotelkeeper, as a friend in the trade who charged me 2s for Auckland beer explained that as it only cost 8d a dozen riiore than the. local product, he just charged a flat rate for all beers. Can you explain to me why some hotelkeepers are permitted to charge 3s a dozen above the local price for Auckland ale. when the extra charge to them is only 8d a dozen.—Yours, etc., BURNT TOAST.
