A LUNAR PHENOMENON
Sir, —On Wednesday night after the pictures at Hokitilra a party of four of us were greatly surprised to seq the moon with quite a red blush on v it, just before going down. Thinking many must have seen it and that some explanation would be made by "The Press,” we did not report .it. Would you kindly explain the reason. The phenomenon lasted fully 10 minutes before • setting.—Yours,-etc.. CURIOUS. Hokitika, June 7. 1946.
[Mr H. F. Baird, director of the Christchurch Magnetic Observatory, when asked to comment on the above, said- “Probably this was due to the air conditions were damp or foggy, thus allowing only the red rays of light to penetrate Red and penetrate such conditions better than other colours, these being absorbed.”]
