U.S. CONGRESSMEN’S SALARIES
INCREASE PROPOSED IN SENATE BILL
(Rec. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June.lo. The United States Senate, by 49 votes to 6, passed a bill to reorganise the machinery of Congress, provide additional professional aides for legislators, and give Congressmen a 50 per cent increase in salary to 15,000 dollars a year. The bill would reduce the Senate’s present 33 committees to 15, with most Senators limited to membership of only two committees instead of the six to 10 on which they serve at present. Congress would adjourn annually in Jul„ except in war-time or a national emergency. Congressmen would Dei permitted at their own discretion to pay into a pension fund. All lobbyists would have to be registered.
