POWER RATIONING IN AUCKLAND
PRIME MINISTER ASKED TO INTERVENE (P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 11. Friction between the Waitemata Power Board and the Auckland Power Board concerning power ra.'tftnffiigWJ"’ suited in an urgent telegram to the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P,L Fraser) to-day by the general, jnmgn. ger of the Waitemata board (Mr A. Main), who said that as local load controller of his board’s area, his actions in carrying out his duty to the Government to keep t|ie load within allowable limits were being strongly criticised by consumers. He alleged that the Auckland board exceeded last week’s allocation by 8 per cent., and that it had been exceeding its allocation for a considerable time. He asked why the Electricity Controller did not take action to compel the Auckland board to keep strictly wi,thin its limits. As this board took a third of the total units generated in the North Island, its neglect most seriously embarrassed all progressive provincial ..power boards and cities in the North island. Mr Main said that a statement by the Auckland board load controller that last week’s quota was exceeded because of the temperature drop there of 14 degrees was all “eyewash.” After dealing at length with other Mr Main requested that the Pripe Minister should not refer the matter to the Hon. R. Semple, but should give it his own personal attention « the country’s head.
