Sir,—l regret to have to say that the statements made by Lieutenant E. J. Ryan, U.S.N.R., at Auckland, show a lamentable ignorance of the neworder and an extreme partisanship of the oia with its over and underlapping 91 service. its cut-throat competition, its excessive morgue-end practice and illogical training, as well as other disabilities. Lack of space prevents argument, but two practical cases can be quoted of actual State management. (1) Soviet Russia has a complete State medical system and competent outside authorities have repeatedly declared it to be, in every way, the finest in the world. (2) Coming nearer home, the New Zealand dental school system has proved to be a complete success, as far as it goes. Dr. Ryan’s statements on loss of initiative, deterioration of standard, decrease in intimate relationship between physician and patient, etc., have, in these two cases, proved him quite Christchurch, June 16, 1943.
