MAORI LAND CLAIMS

Sir,—l read the letter of “Te Manu 0 te Ata” and it gave me the impression that he was sincere in his effort to hplp and advise the Maori people; but why he should prefer to tuck his head under his wing beats me, because 1 am sure the wisdom contained in his letter has been greatly appreciated by those concerned. It will be interesting to learn if “Te Aroha Te Iwi Maori” was a sugar-bag or a money-bag during the depression. If he was a sugarbag he certainly forgets the ladder which pulled him up out of the ditch of starvation: and it he is a moneybag, I am not surprised at the reason why he lurks behind the inky mess which hides his identity.—Yours, etc., W. P. TRAILS. Kaiapoi, June 13. 1943.
