SOLDIERS’ WIDOWS’ PENSIONS
Sir, —I see that a soldier’s widow with two children is to receive £4 IBs a week as a war pension. Does that apply to all war widows? If not, could you let me know the pension for the wife with two children of a lieutenant or captain or any other rank?— Yours, etc., OFFICER’S WIFE. June 7, 1943. [An official of the War Pensions Department said yesterday that no information had yet been received as to how the Increases in war widows’ pensions announced by the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) would be applied to pensions granted to officers’ widows. Before the increases were announced the widow of a private with two children received £3 a week. Rates for officers’ widows were: lieutenant’s £3 15s, captain’s £4, major’s £4 7s. An economic pension of up to 15s a week was granted at the discretion of the War Pensions Board after special application had been made.l
