IMPRESSED 303 RIFLES

Sir,—Some few days ago I read in your columns that .22 rifles and shotguns were being returned to the owners by the Army as supplies were now coming to hand from overseas. I would like to know if they are going to return the sporting .303 rifles taken in at about the same time. Deerskins return a profitable week-end to anyone who cares to go after them, and, as anyone who has done any deerstalking will tell you, the Springfield rifle which was issued in place of the .303 is not suitable with its aperture sights as against the .303 M and blade open sights when a deer is the target. Another important factor is that the ammunition for a Springfield is almost twice the price a 100 as the ,303. Yours, etc., FIVE 808 A POUND. Reefton, June 10, 1943. [No instructions for the return of impressed .303 rifles have been received by Southern Military District Headquarters.]
