AWARD OF V.C. TO MAORI OFFICER

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 11. Commenting on the posthumous award of the Victoria Cross to Second Lieutenant Ngarimu. the Hon. E. T. Tirikatene, Minister in charge of the Maori War Effort, said in the House of Representatives to-day that this award would go down in history, and was a tribute to both pakeha and Maori.

He thought that it should be an inspiration to the people of New Zealand to heed the Government's call for contributions to the war loan, so that material and supplies would be made available to the fighting services.
