CHRISTCHURCH STOCKS FIRM Markets for the week closed on a firm note, and there was a strong inquiry for all classes of stocks. Coles (late sale Thursday). £2 16s 9d; 150 Selfrkiges, 21s 3d; 400 Woolworths (Sydney), (ord.), 15s lid, 16s. A parcel of Christchurch City 3* per cent. Debentures, due March 31, 1949. changed hands at £lO3. Commercial Bank of Australia were fractionally weaker at 16s 6d, and closed with unsupported sellers at 16s 8d; the preference were firmer, with buyers at £lO 6s 6d. Sellers of Bank of New Zealand offered 41s 6d (last business price), buyers Id below. Buyers of Union Bank moved up to £7 13s 6d. no sellers offering. A late sale of Christchurch Building on June 10 was reported at £lB 15s, and late offers at that price failed to attrset sellers* Permanent Investment were stronger, with buyers at £lO 10s, sellers £ll 15s. Buyers of Huddart Parker moved up to 50s 3d, but sellers were scarce. Union Steam (pref.) had improved demand at 295. Canterbury Frozen Meat (pref.) claimed buyers at £8 Is, no sellers. Oamaru Woollens were wanted at 25s 6d, no sellers. Stockton Coal (ord.) were a shade stronger, with buyers and business at 2s lid, sellers at 3s. Buyers of Melbourne Breweries entered the list at the advanced price of 555, but sellers were reticent. Unsupported sellers of New Zealand Breweries came down to 375, without attracting buyers. Alloy Steel (N.Z.) were firmer on buyers’ offers 38s 6d. Beath and Company were firm at 24s 3d, market closing 24s 2d buyers, 24s 5d sellers. Broken Hill Pty. had business at 43s 6d —an advance of is 2d on last business on May 28. market closing 43s 3d buyers, 44s sellers. Unsupported sellers of Claude Neon (N.Z.), came down to 25s 6d. A late sale of G. J. Coles on 10th instant was reported at 56s 9d, and unsupported sellers yesterday offered at 575. Gordon and Gotch were stronger with buyers at 48s. Hay’s, Ltd., showed improvement with buyers of the fully paid at 34s 6d, and of the 15s paid at 28s 6d. Meggitts had stronger inquiry at 31s. New Zealand Drug Company (£1 paid) claimed buyers at 545, but sellers are scarce. New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. ("B” shares) changed hands at 475, and there were further buyers at 465, no sellers. Selfridges were firm with buyers and business at 21s 3d. United Provisions appeared stronger with buyers at 13s 3d. Buyer;? of Weeks, Ltd., again moved up to £lO 12s 6d, and buyers of Whiteombe and Tombs to £5 8s without attracting sellers. Woolworths, Ltd., had dealings at 15s lid and 16s, market closing 15s lid buyers, 16s Id sellers, W. R. Carpenter entered the list with buyers at 35s 6d, sellers 41s 6d. DOMINION RUBBER COMPANY “ The Press ’* Special Service DUNEDIN, June 11. The balance-sheet of the Dominion Rubber Company, presented at the annual meeting this afternoon, shows that the year’s operations resulted in neither a profit nor a loss. Investments and bank deposits show a decrease for the year of £4858. The balance of investments held in New Zealand after allowing for further income-tax payment paid since the close of the financial year was £12,724 16= Bd, which was about 5s in the £ of the company's capital.
MINING
Grey River Return.—For the period from May 26 to June 9, 1943, for 235 hours 15 minutes worked from 165.447 yards (cubici, 503.4 ounces were returned. The May totals were: 538 hours; 376,248 yards; 1189 ounces.
Martha Mine.—The following information has been cabled to London:—For the period ended May 29, 14,077 tons of ore were crushed for a result of 3480 fine ounces of goid and 28,610 fine ounces of silver. The crushing time was 20 days.— (PA.) -Ngahere Gold Dredging, Ltd.—The return for the four-weekly period ended June 11, was 839 ounces from 203.568 yards worked in 465 hours. Mount Morgan.—An estimated working surplus of £11,381 is reported for the four weeks ended June 2.—( P.A.) Maori Gold Dredge.—The return this week was 28oz 14dwt in 103 hours from 12,200 yards.
