LINEN FLAX INDUSTRY
Sir—Mr J. W. Hadfield. replying to “Wake Up’s” letter, stated that tanks were only left empty when it was essential to avoid emptying on Saturday afternoons and Sundays. Why then was it necessary to empty a tank every Sunday morning last winter (this happened for several months), and at this time they were working at halt capacity only. Mr Hadfield stated in a previous reply to a correspondent that he had before him a letter from England which said the linen flax industry in New Zealand was getting over its teething troubles, but I think it’s a “gummy baby.”—Yours, etc., WIDE AWAKE. Methven, June 3, 1943.
