RAILWAY SERVICES

INCREASED REVENUE LAST MONTH The number of passengers carried by the railways during last month exceeded by more than 16,000 the total for May, 1942. The total revenue received by the Railways Department from all its services last month was £158,725, nearly £16,000 more than in May, 1942. Details of revenue received in May (with figures for May, 1942. in parenthesis) are as follows:—Passengers, £27,859 (£24,127); season tickets, £3417 (£2724)f parcels and luggage, £3IBO (£2509); goods, £111,328 (£100,932); road motor passengers, £4284 (£4898); road motor goods, £1272 (£1643); miscellaneous, £7385 (£5643); total, £158,725 (£142,476).
