REMARKS RESENTED

'' ♦ PROTEST BY WAIROA FARMERS “ The Press ’’ Special Service GISBORNE. June 1. Recent remarks made by the chairman of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, Mr T. A. Duncan, in Feilding, were the subject of a discussion at a meeting of the Wairoa branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. A motion was moved, the mover and seconder being strong in their condemnation of Mr Duncan’s action, claiming that his remarks were most unjust in that they attacked the firm of Swift (N.Z.), Ltd., whilst that firm had no opportunity of reply, and at the same time, although Mr Duncan expressed himself as being strongly opposed to meat trusts, yet. one speaker claimed, in his official capacity Mr Duncan must have known that "dummy” companies had been operating in the Dominion. After a long discussion it was suggested by other members that though they had no wish to oppose the mol tion, they believed it would be more reasonable to invite Mr Duncan to visit Wairoa and address the farmers of the district. Ultimately this was agreed upon. Messrs G. Powdrell and H. Bayly withdrawing their motion.
