N.Z. CONTRIBUTION TO RED CROSS
HELP FOR WAR PRISONERS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 1. The Prime Minister (the Rt, Hon. P, Fraser) announced to-day that the New' Zealand Government had agreed to make an annual contribution of £2OOO to the International Red Cross Committee. Geneva. "This coni tribution is intended to assist the committee in meeting the very heavy expenditure involved in serving the interests of prisoners of war,” Mr Fraser said. The New Zealand Government was deeply appreciative of the work of the committee on behalf of New Zealanders. and welcomed the opportunity which the payment afforded of showing in tangible manner its high regard for the splendid work being done. The president of the committee, in acknowledging the contribution, said it came when expenditure was steadily increasing, and was moral as well as material encouragement. THE GENERAL ELECTION ** HURUNUI SEAT Mrs E. A. Hotchkin, Amberley, has announced her intention of contesting the Hurunui seat as an Independent in the general election. She was born and educated in the Hurunui district, and is the wife of Mr Johnson Hotchkin, farmer, of Amberley. During the depression years -Mrs Hotchkin conducted a campaign for buying New Zealand and British-made goods.
