TAR-SEALING OF STREETS

WORK BY CITY COUNCIL SCHEDULE APPROVED A list of 43 streets in the city in which tar-sealing is to be carried out during the financial year was approved last night by the Christchurch City Council on the recommendation of the works committee. The amount on the estimates for this work is £4500. The committee stated that the selection of streets, or rather the reduction to keep within the estimates, was becoming increasingly difficult because so many streets had virtually equal claims.

The schedule approved was:— Central—Peacock street, £80; Aldred street, £80; Conference street, £80; Stewart street, £125; Allen street, £80; Rees street, £7O; Avon street, £3O. St. Albans—Blighs road (Idris road to Wairarapa road), £130; Dean street (completion), £100; Jacob street, £9O; Dormer street, £9O; St: John's street, £100; Lindsay street, £l6O Sydenham—Coleridge street, £190; Barbadoes street (Wordsworth street to Brougham street), £9O; Cadogan street £95; Longfellow street, £105; Western avenue (Sandwich road to Malcolm street), £105; Buff on street. £BO- Wades road, £7O; Prossers road, £IOO. ,« Linwood—Hanmer street (Armagh street to Haast street), £6O; Travers street, £110; Haast street, £95; Leeds street, £105; Hill View street, £6O; Wyon street, £140; Wellington street, £lO5- Clive street, £7O; Marlborough street, £65; Chrystal street. £.310 Spreydon—Moana street, £SO; Tainui street (Somerfield street to Moana street), £75; Ward street, £140; Dickens street, £9O; Wychbury street, £210; Diamond- avenue, £150; Crohane street, £105; Barrie street, £l3O.
