AIR MAILS AND PASSENGERS

Air mail postings in Christchurch during September attained the total of 32,300, which is the second highest since the inauguration of the service. The record was established last month with a total of 33,042. In September, 1937, the total was 22,959 and 13,636 in the corresponding month of 1936. The postings were very regular throughout the month, the highest for any one day being 1598 on September 7. The total for the year in 1937 was 268,831, ‘ compared with 264,082 for nine months of 1938. The number of parcels carried shows an increase, 203 being, carried in September and 192 in August. Passengers carried during September numbered 214, of which 120 were for Blenheim, 41 for Palmerston North, and 53 for Dunedin. Of those booked for Blenheim, 65 travelled to Wellington by air, and 22 to Nelson. Fourteen of the Palmerston North passengers went on to Auckland, three to Napier, and two to New Plymouth. During September, 1937, 198 passengers were carried.
Air Travel in Westland
Aeroplanes of Air Travel (N.Z.), Ltd., were in the air for 166 hours during September, and flights were made on 27 days out of 30 days in the month. Three hundred and 41 flights were made. 57371b of mail, 20731b of freight,, and 230 passengers being carried.
