PROSPECTS FOR SHOW
NEW FEATURES WILL BE INTRODUCED
DECISION OF WEST COAST
ASSOCIATION
The full co-operation of school committees and teachers in country districts will be sought by the West Coa Agricultural and Pastoral Association in providing classes for children's exhibits of calves at the next show. This was a statement made at the annual general meeting of members of the association held at Greymoulh on Thursday, by the chairman (Mr H. G. Carter).
The introduction of such a class. Mr Carter said, had been of great value in other centres as it had interested the children and made them show-minded. It was hoped to have the scheme ready for the next shown The Women’s Institutes had also been approached and arrangements made for a new feature at the next show. For the last show, fine weather had been experienced, and for ’ the first time in the history of the association a credit balance had resulted. The bulk of the bad debts which had been written off, Mr Carter said in reply to Mr N. B. McCallum, was made up of members’ subscriptions. The annual report and baiance-sheet as previously published was adopted.
T v ere had not been a great deal of work to do except about show. time, said Mr Carter. expressing thanks to those who had assisted him during his term of office, and he could see no reason why future shows should not be even better than in the past. He looked forward to a renewal of interest on the part of exhibitors from Canterbury'- He hoped to take an extended holiday and asked to be relieved df the office of chairman. Mr Carter had done excellent work, said Mr W. Clayton, who nominated Mr Carter for re-election. Much of the success achieved had been through Mr Carter’s work. Mr Carter was reelected chairman Other officers were elected as fol-lows:—Vice-president. Mr A. J. Palmer; honorary treasurer, Mr T. E. Coates; committee, Messrs P. Blanchfield. E. Attewell. W. Clayton, J. Braith waite, J. Brown. Coates, A. Bradley, J. Donaldson, W. Fisher. M. J. Fogarty, p. Hamer, P. C. Heaphy, H. W. .Kitchingham, A. M. Jamieson, N. B. McCallum, A. H. McKane. P. J. McLean, J. Mulcare. W. E. North, W. H. Parfitt. W. Rankin. D. H. Roberts, J. Ryan. W. Scott,' A. Smith. D. Shannahart. E. Warnes, A. H. Wilde, and T. G. Kitcffiingham; auditor. Mr E. Warnes.
The association had offered to pay the freight on cattle to the show from country districts, said Mr Carter, and the offer held good. There would be no difficulty in making arrangements, as suggested, for the stock to be paraded round the ring for exhibitors. The .date of the next annual show was fixed for the third Friday and Saturday of February. 1939. After much discussion, it was decided to recommend the incoming committee to interview the Greymouth Trotting Club to try to adjust the matter of percentages charged by the club on admission fees paid by visitors to the show.
It was also decided that it be the association’s policy in future to admit the public free to the stands.

STOCKTON MINE WORK
DELAYED
SUP ON ROPE ROAD CAUSES TROUBLE
It is expected that the slip on the Stockton rope road would have cleared on Wednesday so as to allow coal to be taken through to the. bins, but on Thursday morning a further large fall of debris blocked the road again. It is hoped to have it cleared by Monf.day. I I TUe 'hold-up .has , been unfortunate • for 7 *‘h?-^ est P'' T '»*»' Com-
pany, as there has been a fairly sustained rush of shipping at the Westport waterfront lately. It has also caused many men to lose a fortnight’s work, as the mine has not been active since September 19.
