DEATH OF RAILWAY GANGER
* < VERDICT OF CORONER An inquest was held yesterday concerning the death of Stephen Llewellyn Shuker, a railway ganger, on August 16. Mr E. C. Champion appeared for the widow, and Mr A. W. Brown for the Railway Department. James Guy Cook said he was a ganger in charge of a gang at Motukarara. where a hut was being loaded on to a waggon at a railway siding. Shuker was employed in the gang and received injuries from a bar he was using as a lever. The medical evidence showed that Shuker had died from meningitis, following on bronchial pneumonia, which was excited by a blow on the chest. There was no external indication of the blow except a slight abrasion in the region of the collarbone. Counsel for the Railway Department said that the hut had been loaded on the truck by a regular method. The Coroner. Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.. gave a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence
