SUB-ASSOCIATION MEETS AT
RANGIORA
Cricket in the North Canterbury Sub-Association’s competitions will begin on October 8. This decision was made at the annual meeting of delegates to the sub-association in Rangiora on Tuesday night.
It is hoped that the competitions will be completed before harvesting. On the competitions being finished a series of one-day matches for the Morgan pennant will be played until the close of the season. Two teams will be entered in the country week competitions, which will be held at Christchurch between Christmas and New Year. . , .. To form an umpires’ association it was suggested that those willing to umpire matches this season should meet delegates to consider the matter. Satisfaction with the report and bal-ance-sheet was expressed by Mr H. K. Kippenberger, who presided. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £l7 14s 3d. , A , The following officers were elected: — Patron, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, M.P., and Mr C. Morgan Williams, M.P.; president. Mr H. A. SUCCESSFUL YEAR REPORTED
The annual meeting of the Hororata Cricket Club was held recently. Mr A. Stone presided. The report said that last year was very successful, and the balance-sheet showed a credit. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr W. Stone; president, Mr H. A. Thorne; vice-presidents, Messrs Li. G. D. /?cland, H. Oliver, T. A. Reeves, and F. Locker; secretary and treasurer, Mr E. Fleming (re-elected); delegates to Malvern Sub-Association, Messrs A. Stone and E. Fleming; delegates to pavilion committee, Messrs K. G. Comley and E. Fleming: committee, Messrs A. Stone, E. Fleming, F. N. Wright, P. Isherwood, and K. G. Comley. It was agreed to enter a team in the Malvern Sub-Association competition.

Mr H. Cherry presided at the annual meeting of the Prebbleton Cricket Club. The report, which said that a successful season was experienced, was considered satisfactory. CONTROL BY ' SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL
Mr G. Keith reported at a meeting of the Hororata-Malvern branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association that arrangements had been completed .tor the taking over of the Glenroy War Memorial by the Selwyn County Council. Mr M. E, Jenkins presided. It was arranged,to hold a meeting at Darfield next Tuesday afternoon, when Mrs H. J. Thacker will address women of the district about the proposed formation of a women’s auxiliary. The secretary reported that £2O had been disbursed recently for the relief of distress in the district. . To ‘stimulate a more active interest in association matters, tentative arrangements were made for a smoke concert to be held at Springfield at an early date.
SPRINGSTON SOUTH CARD match ■
A card match was held recently between Springston South and Greenpark in the Springston Sbuth Memorial Hall. The match was won by Greenpark by a few points. . , Most individual points were gamed by Mesdames H. Hoskin and G. Lassen and Messrs L. Palmer and R. Kimber. A Monte Carlo Waltz was won by Mrs J. R. Tyson and Mr P. Riordan. Miss Molly Riordan played the music, and Mr H.‘Hoskin was master of ceremonies.
FUNERAL AT SEDGEMERE
A very large attendance at the funeral of Mr Robert Samuel Patterson, of Sedgemere, gave proof of the regard in which he was held. Members of the Oddfellows’ and Orange Lodges were present at the entrance to St. Mark’s churchyard, where the interment took place. The church services’ were taken by the Revs. L. McMaster (Presbyterian) and S Bailey (Methodist), and those of the lodges by P.G. Bro. R. G. Newton (Oddfellows) and Bro. Brown, of Ashburton (Orange). The bearers were Messrs T. Patterson (brother), R. A. Burgess (brother-in-law), H. D. Jones (Oddfellows), and H. L. Montgomery (Orange). More than 60 floral tributes were received.
SOCIAL AT WEST MELTON
A social was held in the West Melton Hall recently. Competitions resulted as follows: —Women; Mrs D. Wilson 1. Mrs W. Hayes 2. Men: Mr A. Stewart 1. Mr J. Allison and Mr L. Stewart tied for second, and In the play-off Mr Allison (Weedons) , won the aggregate prize for six nights. The proceeds were given to the West Melton branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union* and the West Melton District BorttmlAural Society.
