ANNUAL MEETING AT
RANGIORA
PRIZES AND TROPHIES
PRESENTED
Rifleman D. W. L. Mehrtens presided at the -annual meeting of the Rangiora Defence Rifle Club on Tuesday evening. It was reported that the membership totalled 25. Attendances for competition matches numbered 132 during the season, the president said. The club championship was won by Rifleman C. Humphries, with an aggregate score of 922. The following trophies and prizes were presented by the president:— 1 Tyler Cup for highest aggregate score, Rifleman C. Humphries; Cambridge Cup, Rifleman C. Butters; McKay Cup Rifleman W. Heney; Prizes for the fourth and fifth aggregate scores were presented to Riflemen T. Thompson and R. Bowman respectively. Reference to the death of Mr H. McIntosh, for many years president of the Kaiapoi Defence Rifle Club, was made by Rifleman Mehrtens, who said that Mr Mclntosh had done outstanding work for the Kaiapoi Club, and that the club had suffered a severe loss through his death. A motion of sympathy with the relatives, and with the Kaiapoi Club in the death of Mr McIntosh was passed. The following officers were elected; — President. Rifleman Mehrtens; deputypresident. Rifleman Bowman; secretary and treasurer. Rifleman J. S. Cook; assistant secretary, Rifleman Butters; committee. Riflemen Heney, Thompson Butters, Humphreys, A. Lovegrove, and J. Turner; auditor, Mr C. I. Jennings; selection committee. Riflemen Mehrtens, Bowman, and Cook; delegates tc the Canterbury Riflemen’s Association Riflemen Heney and Bowman; delegate to Mclntosh Shield Committee, Rifleman Heney. It was decided to appoint the handicapper later. Opening day was fixed for October 1. In view of the shoot held last Christmas being a success, it was agreed tc hold another next Christmas.
RANGIORA PLUNKET SOCIETY
ARRANGEMENTS MADE FOR
FLOWER DAY
Final arrangements for the Rangiora Plunket Society’s flower day, which will be held next Tuesday, were made by the society at its monthly meeting yesterday. It was arranged .that Miss Doreen Dolton, lecturer in child psychology under the auspices of the Association for Country Education, should give an address on flower day on the •management of children. . Nurse Shepherd reported that- during the month 43 visits had been paid to homes and that 282 patients had been attended at the society’s rooms. Visits to homes in out-stations totalled 86, and 219 patients visited the rooms. Mrs M. A. Lane presided at the meeting, which was well attended.
CONCERT AT RANGIORA
EXCELLENT PROGRAMME
PRESENTED
An excellent concert was presented by the pupils of the Rangiora High School in the Town Hall last night. There was a large audience. The whole programme, which included part-songs, pianoforte solos, ballets, and two oneact plays, was bright and original. Those who took part in the plays were Jah»t Talldtt, Valerie Crmckshank, H. Goldsbury. J- TM®^£vols- - W: Kennedy, J., Lockhart, B. Scott, M. Smith, E. Gardner, Joyce Winter, Marjorie Shilton, L. Cook, L. Jones, and A. Pratt. The plays, a tragedy and a comedy, Were capably produced and acted in a manner that would have done credit to more experienced players. A feature of the programme was a tap dance by L. Golding, Z. Lockhart, and A. McKay. Costumes in the military. ballet arranged by the girls were designed and made by the pupils. P. Keir played two piano solos.

FOUR PLAYS PRESENTED
The Scargill Drama Club held a concert in the Scargill Hall recently. Four plays were presented, with musical interludes. . , „ Those taking part were;— First play, Mesdames T. D. Mac Donald, R. S. CARD PARTY AT PREBBLETON
A successful card party was* held in the Prebbleton Parish Hall by the women’s committee to assist the funds of,AH Saints’ Church. Prizes were won by Mrs A. Tomson, Mrs G. Rutherford,, Mr W.
