LETTER BOXES RIFLED
RECOVERY OF CONTENTS BY POLICE
Prompt action by the police has resulted in the recovery of nearly 200 letters stolen from 11 letter-boxes, most of them in the Linwood district, which were broken into last Sunday night. Many of the letters were opened or mutilated in some way, but many of them have been officially sealed and forwarded by the Post Office. All the Christchurch letters were delivered by Monday afternoon, but some of the letters, were so badly torn that the postal authorities are still trying to piece -them together and replace them in their envelopes or return them to the senders. It is possible that in gome cases the contents will be incomplete or mixed, and the department has sent out explanatory-notes. It is understood that two youths, who have already beep brought before the Court on another charge, will be charged with these offences.
