The Lyttelton Borough Council met last evening. There were present the Mayor. (Mr F. E. Sutton), Councillors Q. Halliday, J. N. Neville, W. T. Lindsay, G. S. Morris, R. Cairns, W. T. Foster, J. D. Sargentina, R. Fenton. A grant of £2 2s was made to. the Lyttelton branch of the Workers' Educational Association. J. T.-Norton, Ltd., wrote asking for consideration of their account for £22 7s forgasfor August. The-Town Clerk (Mr ~F. Hobbs) explained that the firm's average consumption wis 8000 cubic feet, but in -August It had jumped to 81,000 cubic feet. In reply to a question, the gasworks manager (Mr R. N. Thomas) said, that a leak had been located on the consumer's" side of"- the meter. -. ■ * On the. motion of Cn Sargentina, seconded by Cr. Fenton, the -matter was referred- to the chairman of the lighting committee (Cr. Cairns) and the gasworks: manager to report. . A letter was; received from the borough solicitors, Messrs Duncan, Cotterill and Company, stating that they had investigated'.Page's road, and found that -the road had been taken over bv/the council "in 1897; It. was decided to issue notices to property owners in Page's road to-re-move, gates, from the road. A letter was received' from the Employment Bureau asking the council to reconsider the offer to supply labour to repair- the Bridle- Path from Harman's road to the Summit. On the motion of Cr, Sargentina, seconded by Cr. Cairns, it. was' decided that the chairman of the-works committee, (Cr. Morris) and the borough engineer (Mr H. H.,Barnard)' should inspect the Bridle Path with a view to accepting the "offer. :
