ROUGH WEATHER ON VOYAGE FROM AUCKLAND On her farewell visit in her present commission, H.M.S. Achilles, the flagship of the New Zealand Division.of the Royal Navy, arrived at Lyttelton yesterday afternoon from Auckland. The Achilles is to leave Auckland on December 2 for England, where she will pay off and refit before commissioning again for New Zealand. Exceedingly rough weather was met on the voyage of the Achilles from Auckland to Lyttelton. The warshio sailed from Auckland at 10.30 a.m. on Saturday in fine weather. A falling barometer, however, warned those on board of trouble to come. When the Achilles was off Hawke's Bay a fierce southerly gale compelled the ship to reduce speed until she was practically hove to and several green seas were shipped. From noon on Sunday till 10 o'clock that night, speed was maintained at six knots. The weather then moderated and speed "was increased." Those on board remarked on the magnificent view obtained of the Southern Alps when the warship was off Pegasus Bay. The Achilles will remain at Lyttelton until September 28, when she will sail for Dunedin. Ratings will receive ordinary leave during the vessel's stay in Lyttelton.
