NEW SYSTEM FOR
TIMARU
BOARD ACCEPTS TENDER
The- existing system at : -Timaru haying outlived its usefulness, the'Timaru Fire Board decided at its quarterly; meeting, yesterday to accept the,“tender of the ’ Duplex Company for a new fire alarm- system, provided financial arrangements are made satisfactory to the board. The . cost of the installation will be . about £1450.
During the six months just past the brigade experienced one of the quietest half-yearly periods known for many years, according to the report of the Superintendent (Mr E. W. McCann). The report stated that 20 calls were received, the fire loss being nil, and for the corresponding period- of last year the calls had numbered 40, with a fire ' loss qf £687. During the last three ' months the brigade had been called oiit five times, once to a-hedge fire, once to a fire-place in a dwelling house, and times to chimney fires.' . .. .
