PROGRESS LEAGUE AT NORTH BEACH
# SUPPORT FOR REMOVAL OF DUMP FROM RESERVE In moving at the meeting of the North Beach Progress League and Beautifying Associate p last evening
1 that the league support the movement to have the night-soil dump removed from the reserve at North Beach as soon as possible, Mr J. Kelly said he wholeheartedly supported the proposal and considered that every effort should be made to have the dump taken from i the district. Mr E. A. M. Leaver, who presided, said that the dumping of the night soil in the reserve had improved the grounds more than 100 per cent. They i had been levelled and put in proper i order. If the insinuation was that the ; dump should be removed because it
was a nuisance, then he did not agree With the proposal. If, however, the grounds were required for sports, then he would support the scheme. Mr J. O’Connel claimed that in view of the near approach of amalgamation with Christchurch and the installation of a sewerage scheme for the whole borough, the league should not give its support to the proposal. The motion was carried. The resignation of Mr T. E. Welsh as secretary was Accepted with regret. It was decided to convene a special meeting of the league for the election
e of a secretary and to discuss the future e of the league. n A resolution was carried expressing sympathy with the relatives of Mr T. v Cox. who was a foundation member n of the league.
