AUSTRALIAN HARBOUR DEFENCE
❖ NEW FORTIFICATIONS BEING PREPARED CANBERRA, March 9. Work will begin within a few months on the new fortifications at North Head to provide additional protection for Sydney Harbour, and at the entrances to Newcastle and Darwin. It is understood that nine-inch guns are expected to reach Australia from England before the end of the year. The new fortifications form part of the Federal Government's policy for strengthening the coastal defences of the. Commonwealth.
