LAND SPEED RECORD
ANOTHER ATTEMPT AT END OF MONTH (Received March 10, 5.5 p.m.) DAYTONA BEACH, March 8. Sir Malcolm Campbell will wait for the full moon tides late in March for another attempt In the Blue Bird to make a record of 300 miles an hour. About March 20 he hopes the beach will have reached a condition near perfection. He said: "Yesterday's run was the worst ride I ever had. Although the beach was smooth for the first half of the way down it was quite rough from that point on. Coming north it was necessary to pick up speed over the rougher surface. I thought I was gone when the car swerved, but the Blue Bird came back nobly." ADVICE TO BE CONTENT ' BRITISH PRESS TRIBUTES LONDON, March 8. Lord Wakefield has cabled his congratulations to Sir Malcolm Campbell, adding: "You should be content to rest on your laurels so gloriously earned." The cablegram epitomises the general feeling that Sir Malcolm Campbell should not further risk his life. Kaye Don, who watched Sir Malcolm's record drive, declares the return run was the most heroic thing in Sir Malcolm's career. "I don't wish to see him again dicing with death," he declared. Sir Malcolm, in response to the "Star's" motoring writer, who, by ' telephone, begged him to come : home, replied: "I still hope to do ■ 300 miles an hour." f The newspapers pay warm tri- ' butes to Sir Malcolm Campbell's ■ daring and skill, and refer to the ■ value to the British motor industry of the data his high speed achievements have produced.
