SAILING
RACE TO PIGEON BAY The deefr inlet of Pigeon Bay was the rendezvous of many yachts and other pleasure craft during the weekend, when a race was arranged by the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club. The race, for auxiliary craft, commenced from Lyttelton at 2.45 p.m. on Saturday, and finished at the Pigeon Bay wharf. The placed boats were: Sea Kid (A. Round) .. 1 Irene (R. P. Mason) .. 2 Linnet (K. Patten) .. 3 In the evening the club held a dance in the Pigeon Bay Hall. There was a large attendance, some of those present coming from as far as Akaroa. Music was played by Bartram's orchestra. Yesterday morning the club held a compass steering competition, the winner being I. Treleaven, of the Marangi. HACK FOR NEVILLE CUTS The sailing race for centre-board boats, held by the Canterbury Yacht and Motor-Boat Club on Saturday afternoon for the Neville Cups, attracted 22 starters. There was a light to fresh north-easterly wind, with little sea, and sailing conditions were good. The cup for first place was won by Result, a newcomer, while Atom secured the second cup. The placing? were:— Result '2lmin) 4 50 34 1 Atom (27min) 5 0 32 2 Hawe (27min) 5 0 40 3 Eighteen other boats finished, Wairuna retiring.
