Flower ut- 8.30 a.m. ! The race was llown in fine weather, and with an easterly wind, which helped the birds to 1 rocord fnst times. The winning bird, Mr A. >Si-oU'h blue rhetiuer hen Bine Stnr, flow the 105 miles 700 yards in 2hrs 23min. The velocities wore as follows: Yards a minute. A. Scuifs Blue Stnr .. -1297 A. CANTERBURY CLUB HOLDS LONG DISTANCE RACES The Canterbury Pigeon Flying Club re* cenllv flew off a race from Ilicks Bay, Fifty-five birds were sent, divided amongst 22 lofts. The birds were liberated at 5 a.m. in fine weather, but owing to the wet weather which the birds encountered later on in the journey the times wero slow, and the first arrivals did nol reach home till nooTi the next day. t Til© winner was J. Luke's bird No. 583, which flew the distance of 526 miles 1615 yards in 22hrs 35min 4sec, after deducting the hour* of darkness. Tho following is the result:— Yards a minute. .1. French won the nominated bird prizes. The club also flew off another race from Henderson (Auckland). Fifty-eight birds were .sent, divided amongst 16 lofts. The birds were liberated by the s'ntionmaster at 3.40 p.m. in fine weather and light southeast wind. Later the weather was not so favourable for the birds to put up good times, and only one bird reached home on • the second dfiy. Tho winner was E. , French's bird No. 902. which flew the distance of 505 miles 3200 yards in 18hrs 6min 26sec, after deducting the hours of dark- > ness. . The following is the result: — minute. .
