FIRES

HOMESTEAD DESTROYED AT LADBROOKS The homestead on the farm of Mr T. Foster, Ladbrooks, was destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon, and nothing was saved. There was no one in the house, which is not visible from the road, at the time of the fire, and when the family returned they found it completely destroyed. The fire is thought to have been caused by a defective chimney. The owners will be heavy losers. OUTBREAK AT NEW BRIGHTON The New Brighton Volunteer Fire Brigade received a call at 7.25 p.m. yesterday to Wm. Harris' butchery in Seaview road. An electric motor had seized, and burnt out, causing a dense smoke, but little damage was caused to either premises or fittings.
