THE CITY POSTAL DISTRICTS
*0 THB EDITOB 0* THE PRESS. Sir,—A few days ago I received information from the Post and Telegraph Department that my postal district is now designated as CI. A full list of the new designations shows me that there is no other C, and so I am wondering why the 1. Except for N.W., there are only two in each compass point division; and I am also wondering why it is necessary to have a figure for each. Surely it would be much simpler to have C instead of C. 1, and N. and N. 1, N.E. and N.E. 1 and so on instead of N. 1 and N. 2, N.E. 1 and N.E. 2. If an alteration is not immediately made some economic adviser to the Associated Chambers of Commerce will compute it that superfluous figures in addresses are costing industry in New Zealand several thousands of pounds per annum more than necessary. And then what with the wrangling that will eventuate between the pen, nib, ink, and typewriter, manufacturers and the other industrialists, there will be an awful rumpus. —Yours, etc.. SIMPLICITAS.
