LODGE MEETINGS

There was a good attendance of officers and members at the last meeting of Court Papanui. A.0.F., the Chief Ranger, Bro. R. Hall, presiding. Correspondence was received from the District Secretarv advising that judges had been appointed for this year's ritual competition. The G.P.C.R. Bro. A. V. Baker was presented with a P.C.R.'s jewel, in recognition of his services during his second term as C.R. Opportunity was also taken to present a set of cutlery to the secretary. Bro. A. Claridge, on the occasion cf his marriage. Arrangements were put in hand for the visit of the district officers and the Grand Chapter at the next meeting. The fortnightly meeting of Ridgely Lodge, No. 36, was held on "Wednesday evening, when Bro. C. King presided over a large attendance. One member was granted his transfer and five new members were initiated. The competition judges being present, the initiation was judged for the competition shield. The sick visitors reported on several members and the secretarv was instructed to send a letter of cheer to P.D.D.G.M. Bro. L. Steele, in his illness. A hearty welcome extended to the visitors, was replied to by P.G. Bro. Scott, of Unity Lodge of Dunedin, Bro. Allsop, of Washington, and Bro. Young, of Opawa. P.G. Bro. Brown replied to the vote cf thanks for judging the team. P.G.L.P. White, on behalf of the lodge, presented P.G. Bro. H. F. Garrard with a 25-year jewel. Several members eulogised the splendid work of Bro. Garrard in carrying out all duties asfitrned to him. The monthly meeting of the North Canterbury Encampment No. 3 was held recently, when Chief Patriarch C. A. Smith, presided over a good attendance. Past Chief Pat. W. A. Smith was received and welcomed into ':h lodge on transfer from the Port Nk'holi-on Encampment. In his reply, Patriarch Smith stressed the need for members to exert themselves in various ways to bring new members into thr. Encampment. Several members of various subordinate .lodges volunteered t" act us delegates to their lodges.
