SUMMER RACES

MOTUKARARA MEETING The prospect of a good day's sport, a pleasant outing in beautiful surroundings, and most of all for many, the anticipation of meeting kind and hospitable friends, all combined to make the summer meeting of the Banks Peninsula Racing Club, held at Waihora Park, Motukarara, on Saturday a pronounced success. The day was calm and warm: and there were visitors present from all the surrounding districts as well as Christchurch, a great many of whom were entertained by the hospitable residents at picnic lunch and tea under the trees, or in their cars.

The fields were large and the racing interesting, and Ihe fact that in most ca.-'cs the 'favourite was "in the money" caused rejoicing to be widespread. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, patron of the club, presented the cup to Sir Charles Clifford, owner of the winner Fracas, and the coveted blue ribbon was tied round the handsome horse's neck by Mrs W. F. Parkinson (wife- of the president), who wore an ensemble of black wool georgette, pin-spotted with white, with mastic crepe de chine vestec. and a black felt and velvet hat.
