SCOTTISH SOCIETY
LARGE ATTENDANCE AT MONTHLY CEILIDH There was a large attendanee of members and friends at the monthly ceilidh of the Scottish Society, which was held on Thursday evening. Chief G. M. Teller, supported by Chieftain R. M. Speirs, presided. After welcoming those present, the chairman introduced Mr C. A. Burmister, who was recently appointed drum-major of the society's pipe band. At the conclusion of the programme, which was arranged by Councillors J. McLachlan and R. T. Smith, Chieftain Speirs moved a vote of thanks to the promoters, the hostesses, Mesdames McLachlan, Smith, and Wilson, and the artists. Miss Alice G. Gibb played the accompaniments, Pipe-Major McLachlan piped-for the Highland dancing, and Mrs Creagh supplied music for the dance that followed. The programme was as follows: — Ode, Misses Jean Smith and Maude Kcntch; selections, the society's band; Highland reel, Misses Heather McLachlan, Joan McDonald, Jean Smith, and Betty McMillan; pianoforte solo, Mr Eyles: song, Mr Jock North; venIriloquism, Mr Woodford; Highland (ling. Miss Betty McMillan; song, Miss Kathleen Bond; sword dance, Miss Jean McLachlan; song, Mr West; hornpipe, Miss Joan McDonald; humorous sketch, Mr and Mrs Woodford; song, Miss Maude Kentc'h; pianoforte solo, Miss Pierre; seann triubhais, Miss Joy McLachlan; skipping rope dance, Miss Jean Smith; double jig, Misses Barbara and Jean Dickson.
