KAIKOURA NEWS
PERSONAL' Sir John and Lady Perring were visitors to Kaikoura yesterday. Sir John is a member of the London County Council and touring New Zealand. In the moniing he drove up to the Peninsula, where a commanding view of Kaikoura is obtainable, and saw the old Maori fortifications. Later he visited the Kaikoura Co-operative Dairy Factory, viewing the cream as it came from the farms, and watched the churns working, and butter being placed in the boxes for marketing. He showed keen interest in the butter making, and expressed the opinion that the Dominion butter must be made more tempting at the other end, where the consumers were guided by the appearance of the article to a great extent. He was informed by the manager that Kaikoura butter graded as high as 955, finest butter being made from a grade of 93. Sir John emphasised the. point that it was necessary to have the butter made more attractive in appearance. In this respect the Dominion was lacking. Sir John and Lady Perring left at 11 a.m. for Christchurch, where they were due to arrive about 5 p.m.
