Murray, welcoming a largo number of members and visitors, and presenting the trophies won during the past year. The club captain, Mr R..A. Young, referred to thu improvements that had been carried out on lb') club's courts recently. Thanks to (lip untiring efforts of Mr. Murray, the (omt«. which the previous season had been u mass of deep cracks and which had been over-run by a twitch that must be the worst of its typ.e in the world, had uow been placed in good order and top-dressed, while the methods employed to eliminate the twitch were so thorough that after several months not a sign of the weed had reappeared. The club had been foctunato, after many attempts, in gaining permission for the erection of a brushwood fence, which provided muchneeded shelter and improved the playing visibility. In declaring the courts open for the year, Mr Murray refeired to the successes gained by the club's teams and players during the year. For the first time since 1926 the club had won the inter-University College Tennis Challenge Cup, while in local competitions a very young team had won the senior competition for the premier club team in Christchurch. He appealed to the members to cultivate the club spirit that had made Canterbury -College such a force in the tennis world in Ohristchurch in the past. He thanked the firms and individuals who had made possible the reconstruction of the courts. Mr W. N. Seay, on behalf of the Canter•bury Lawn Tennis Association, then handed the senior inter-club competition shield, presented by Mr P. R. Harman, to the winning, team, H, A. Burnett, A. R. Cant, B. A. Barrer, and H. S, P. Andrews, and congratulated them ,on their i success. Mr Seay referred to the success of the club's' leading player, H. A, Barnett, in the Wilding Shield matches and in the New Zealand championships. Trophies were presented as follows:—Men's championship singles (L.S.Jennings Memorial Cup), H. A. Barnett; men's championship doubles, B. A. Barrer and E. H. Adkins; women's doubles championship, Misses M. Thompson- and J, McLean; best performance at inter-'Varjiiy tournament (F. J. Murray cup), A., R. Cant. Exhibition matches were played by G. Ollivier, C. Angas, H. A. Barnett, and W. R. Robinson, while the final of the club's doubles championship for 1931 was also played as an exhibition, B. A. Barrer and E. H. Adkins beating the holders of the title, A. R. Cant and H.-S. P.
