SCOUT NOTES.
* [exclusive to the press.] [By The Metropolitan Commissioner | The Chief Commissioner and the General Secretary have recently been on tour in Marlborough and Nelson on Scout business. They had some adventures on the nay. Starting just after the heavy rain, the road through Kaikoura was strewn with bounlders washed up by the sea from the beach, some of tliem being a foot in diameter, and owing to slips the road was impassable for service cars. Major Furby, however, who had a small car, just managed to get through. Colonel Fon.wick, on the other hand, was unable to leave Christchuxch owing to the storm, and had to wait tor several days. Owing to the bad state of the roads he had some trouble with the ■ machinery of his car, and is still waiting at Blenheim for repairs. A new Commissioner. Mr W, G. Girling, for Marlborough, was invested. He is on ex-member of Parliament and the vicepresident of the Rotary Club. . At Blenheim an evening parade was held, and the Chief Commissioner and Major Furby took charge of the troops. From Blenheim they travelled to Nelson, where a parade of 150 Scouts was held. One troop came 88 miles by motorlorry. Mr Holden Webb was appointed Assistant Commissioner for Nelson. It was the Chief Commissioner's intention to visit the West Coast, where a Scout Rally was to bo held on Saturday, March 12th, but as this has been deferred until Saturday, March 19th, m order to nold a joint rally with the Girl Guides, it will not bo possible for him to go, as he is engaged to attend the rally at Kaiapoi on that date. Easter Camps. The following Easter camps havebeen authorised :—Merivale, at the Waimakariri river, at Belfast, under the charge of S.M. J. G. Slater. St. Saviour's, Sydenham, at Mr G. Shipley's Island Farm, Harewood, under the charge of S.M. E. Culverhouse. New Brighton, at Mr Dennis's Farm, Inwood road, , Burwood, under the charge of S.M, C. G. Cooper, and Kaiapoi, at Mt. Thomas, under the care of Commissioner Gray. New Troop. Commissioner Gray reports that he addressed a successful meeting of citizens at Oxford on March 2nd, and discussed the formation of a troop of Scouts there. A good committee was set up, with Mr Bringans as convener, and a pack of Cubs Is in training under tlie' charge of Miss J. Comyna.
Kaiapoi Sally. All arrangements have been made for the Guide and Scout Rally on Saturday next. A schedule has now been received. The rally begins at 10 a.m. by a rehearsal of the march past and the grand rush. Sports events will start at 10.30. The Brownies will come on first on Ground 1, south •of the oval, with three races and a high jump. The Cubs will follow on Ground 2, north of the oval, in teams of six. The Guides will occupy Ground 3, south half of the oval, and the Scouts will hold their sports on Ground 4, north half of the oval. At 11.30 a.m. all will adjourn to the swimming baths, where there will be swimming races for both Guides and Scouts and a life-saving exhibition. All will return to the park for lunch at 12.30 p.m. At 2.15 p.m. all will fall in on Ground 2, ready for the march past. At 2.30 p.m. a reception will take place of the visiting Commissioners. After this there will be moro races for Cubs and Brownies, and at 3 p;m. there will be Guide» and Scouto displays. At 3.30 p.m. more sports and at half-past four the grand rush. Visiting troops, who are especially- welcome, will be admitted free. They are invited to take part in the march past. Hot water will .be provided free at lunch time. On arrival troops, should report to the District Commissioner in charge, who will allot ground for the troops' use. In Guide and Scout events, all except relay swimming races will be in two divisions —Senior, 14 and oyer; junior, under 14. An individual championship certificate will be awarded to the Guide, Scout, Cub, and Brownie gaining the 'highest number, of points for their unit. • Mr Raymond Warren, late Troop leader of the Kaiapoi Boy Scout Troop, has be»n appointed District Secretary for the No. 6 District.
